When you plan on spending time outdoors, how often do you make sure to wear a hat to protect your face from the sun?
While it may be a bit unrealistic to don gloves throughout the entire year, we really should give our hands some of the same care as our face, as they are very unforgiving to hiding signs of aging!
Besides the effects of the sun (which alone can lead to a myriad of unfavorable appearance changes, from discoloration and age spots to leathery, damaged skin), our hands often endure a lot of abuse just from daily activities.
Nourish your hands and help avoid dry, cracked skin with these tips:
Be selective about soaps (including those used on the entire body), as many types strip moisture from the skin. Choose emollient-rich varieties and apply hand cream regularly after cleansing to lock in the skin’s natural moisture.
Wear protective gloves when gardening, using cleaning detergents and chemicals, or doing other activities that can be harsh on the skin.
Drink plenty of water, as the skin needs to be continually re-hydrated from the inside-out.
The neck is often another often-ignored body part, and like the hands, the signs of aging are very hard to camouflage. Besides protecting this delicate area from excessive sun exposure, gentle exfoliation twice a week can help the skin’s appearance and promote the absorption of conditioning creams, as dead skin cells do not retain moisture well.
